![]() ![]() I will say this thing is rediculously heavy.and I've moved at least 3 circa 1900 uprights.Ģ) Restoration? Is it possible this piano could be in this type of condition without someone having put a lot of money into it?ģ) Rounded black keys (rounded off at the back of them).I've never seen that before. Only a few scratches, and the pictures listed below are taken after just giving it a rub down with a little lemon oil.ġ) What type of wood? The pictures at the bottom (number 4, specifically) show the grain. If I had to take a guess, I would say the strings were replaced 30 or 40 years ago, I seriously doubt the original strings could be anywhere near pitch. Also, I can't see any other signs of repair. I can't really hear a difference in the sound on those keys, but I don't claim to be an expert. It plays very well for an upright in general.Īs for previous repairs, it appears 4 or 5 hammers have been replaced. All three pedals work properly, along with the dampers. It is presently in tune! All of the keys seem to be mechanically sound (minus the second lowest Eb which sounds but needs a little work). I found this piano at a Habitat for Humanity thrift store, and bought it for $300 about 2 seconds after seeing and playing it. I have a few questions about a Mehlin upright and would like to appeal to the experts for some desparate help! Note: I've read the archives of the board, so these shouldn't really be repeats.
